Exquisite copy of the second edition of Bacci's work on the spas and hot springs of Europe, in sumptuous red morocco with the coat of arms of Pope Sixtus V, born Felice Peretti (1521-1590). The work explores the geological origins of the waters and springs, as well as their medicinal properties.
Folio, (360 x 250 mm). Printer's device to title page, printed in red and black, woodcut initials, double-page woodcut plan of the Baths of Diocletian (occasional spotting). Contemporary morocco binding in the arms of Pope Sixtus V within a gilt frame with the lions of the papal arms in the corners, spine with gilt title decoration and gilt lettering. Provenance: 18th century cardinal's stamp on title page. (1)
