[KNIGHTS OF MALTA] Defensio iurium...pro responsione ad librum "vera e sincera relatione del Duca di Parma contro la presente occupatione del stato di Castro". [Rome: Camera Apostolica, 1641]
A work that illustrates the papal motivations in the First War of Castro (1641-1644) when Urban VIII Barberini attacked Odoardo Farnese to reabsorb the Duchy of Castro, entrusting the task of the war to his nephew Cardinal Francesco and to Antonio from whose library the present binding comes bearing his cardinal's arms and the cross of the Order of Malta, of which he was Grand Prior between 1635 and 1671.
Folio, (342 x 238mm). Printer's device with St. Paul and St. Peter on the title page (some foxing). Contemporary armorial binding in vellum of Antonio Barberini iuniore (1607-1671) as Grand Prior of Rome of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta (endpapers restored). (1)
