Elegant contemporary red morocco 'reliure parlante' for this monumental Parisian edition of Plutarch's Parallel Lives in Latin translation.
Folio, (388 x 263mm). Large engraved initials, wide margins (some foxing and slight browning). Contemporary 'reliure parlante' in Venetian morocco with the author's name and title gilt stamped within a simple medallion inscribed within a blindstamped and gilt decorated frame with flowers and vine leaves (spine skillfully restored at a later date, some restoration and minor chipping to the boards). Provenance: 'Biblioteca del Marchese Filippo Serlupi Crescenzi' heraldic ex libris to the endpapers; 'Firenze 1936 £135 + 10%' purchase note to the endpapers. (1)
