[DANTE] CARRIERO, Alessandro (1546-1626). Breue et ingenioso discorso contra l'opera di Dante. Padua: Meietto, 1582.
Landau copy of this scarce work, never auctioned (RBH). The volume is part of the literary debate for and against the Divine Comedy, criticising Dante for having abandoned imitation and unity of action according to Aristotelian principles, and for using 'new voices', thus siding against linguistic innovation. Also included in the volume is Frachetta's 'Dialogue on Poetic Anger', in which, through a dispute with three fellow students, he explores the concept of poetic anger according to Plato and Aristotle and attempts to reconcile it with the Platonic view of poetry.
