Famous edition printed by Sessa, also known as the 'Edition of the Great Nose' or 'Nasone' because of the first appearance of Dante's iconic portrait, which is prominently featured on the title page. This is the first edition to combine the commentaries of Vellutello and Landino, edited by Francesco Sansovino.
Folio, (286 x 200 mm). Portrait of the author within an elaborate frame on the title page, 96 woodcut illustrations in the text and initials (tear to title page without loss of engraving, ink-bleed to leaf II3 with loss of a few letters, foxing, trimmed). Seventeenth century green half morocco binding, Venetian paper boards (woodworm holes to spine). Provenance 'Jo Andrea De Ronchis et amicorum' contemporary ownership inscription on the back of the title page; on the back of the last blank leaf ownership inscription by Giovanni Battista Fiorini dated 1847.
