Se esiste un'auto che ha saputo rappresentare lo spirito di una nazione è proprio la Fiat 500. Nata nel 1957 come sostituta dell'amata 500 Topolino, la Nuova 500 divenne subito uno dei simboli della motorizzazione di massa. Il nome Nuova 500 vuole proprio creare un legame con la precedente Fiat 500, più nota con il soprannome di "Topolino", da cui però si discosta completamente. Le novità tecnologiche, infatti, nascono dall'esperienza e dal successo della 600: dalla carrozzeria autoportante alle sospensioni indipendenti. La parte posteriore richiama le linee curve della 600 mentre anteriormente il cofano a guscio è più moderno e ricopre anche parte dei parafanghi, che non si raccordano più unicamente ai fari. Un tettuccio in tela riveste tutto il padiglione e le porte si aprono "controvento". La meccanica deve essere semplice in modo che anche i costi di manutenzione siano contenuti: per questo, dopo diversi tentativi, viene scelto da Dante Giacosa un inedito motore bicilindrico raffreddato ad aria da collocare posteriormente. La cilindrata iniziale di 479 cm3 consente di erogare 13 cavalli a 4.000 giri al minuto per una velocità massima di 85 km/h.
Questo esemplare ben conservato appartiene alla serie di transizione fra il modello N e il D, chiamato con affetto " Pre D", immancabile nelle più attente collezioni del modello. Perdendo le tipiche prese d'aria della N in favore degli indicatori direzionali per la prima volta divenuti obbligatori sul frontale delle auto per norma di legge nel Codice della Strada, a un primo sguardo appare esteticamente molto più ''moderna''. Mantiene invariato il pianale con le tipiche leve per aria e accensione della versione N.
A corredo c'è il suo libretto a pagine originale con tutti i bolli pagati negli 60-70-80 anni a tagliandino, e il certificato di proprietà originale del primo titolare. L'auto ha avuto tre soli proprietari dal 1960 a oggi, il secondo nel 1964, il terzo e attuale dal 2015. Gli interni sono molto ben conservati e la carrozzeria si presenta in buono stato generale, l'auto è stata mantenuta negli anni senza mai affrontare un restauro integrale. Si presenta oggi da subito adatta a essere utilizzata consapevoli di avere una perla ormai rara del motorismo storico italiano.
If there is a car that has come to represent the spirit of a nation, it is the Fiat 500. Born in 1957 as a replacement for the beloved 500 Topolino, the Nuova 500 immediately became one of the symbols of mass motoring. The name New 500 is intended to create a link with the previous Fiat 500, better known by the nickname 'Topolino' (Mickey Mouse), from which, however, it differs completely. The technological innovations, in fact, stem from the experience and success of the 600: from the self-supporting body to the independent suspension. The rear end recalls the curved lines of the 600, while at the front, the shell bonnet is more modern and also covers part of the mudguards, which no longer connect solely with the headlights. A canvas roof covers the entire roof and the doors open 'upwind'. The mechanics had to be simple so that maintenance costs would also be low: this is why, after several attempts, Dante Giacosa chose an unprecedented air-cooled twin-cylinder engine to be placed at the rear. The initial displacement of 479 cm3 allowed it to deliver 13 hp at 4,000 rpm for a top speed of 85 km/h.
This well-preserved example belongs to the transitional series between the N and D models, affectionately known as the 'Pre D', a must-have in the most attentive model collections. Losing the typical air intakes of the N in favour of the directional indicators that for the first time became compulsory on the front of cars by law in the Highway Code, at first glance it appears aesthetically much more 'modern'. It retains the same floorpan with the typical air and ignition levers of the N version.
Accompanying it is its original page booklet with all the stamps paid in the 60-70-80 years with coupon, and the original certificate of ownership of the first owner. The car has only had three owners since 1960, the second in 1964, the third and current since 2015. The interior is very well preserved and the bodywork is in good overall condition, the car has been maintained over the years without ever undergoing a full restoration. It is now suitable for immediate use in the knowledge that it is a rare pearl of historic Italian motoring.
