Le origini della prima generazione della BMW Serie 6, contraddistinta dalla sigla di progetto E24, risalgono ai primi anni Settanta. Il reparto di sviluppo del marchio affida il compito di disegnare una prestigiosa coupé centro stile BMW, guidato da Paul Bracq (era stato parallelamente il compito anche ad un team guidato da Giorgetto Giugiaro, il cui progetto però viene accantonato). Il debutto in società della Serie 6 avviene al Salone di Ginevra del 1976. Le sue particolari forme, con linee tese e ampie superfici vetrate, vengono subito accolte con entusiasmo dal pubblico. L'originale conformazione dell'anteriore, caratterizzato da una calandra di plastica con inglobato il doppio rene centrale, regala inoltre all'auto il soprannome di Squalo.
Sotto la moderna carrozzeria si celano soluzioni tecniche all'avanguardia come la scocca con muso e coda deformabili, costruita per soddisfare al meglio anche i rigidi standard di sicurezza imposti dal mercato americano, dove verrà commercializzata (dal 1977). Nel 1978 debutta la 628 CSi, che eredita dalla 528i il motore di 2.8 litri da 184 cv. Nel 1982 l'aggiornamento di mezza età del modello, tipico di quel periodo, si rivela molto corposo e porta novità sia in ambito telaistico (riduzione di peso, cambio geometrie sospensioni) che in ambito estetico (fendinebbia anteriori integrati nei paraurti ridisegnati, mentre internamente furono adottati un nuovo volante a tre razze ed un nuovo cruscotto che comprendeva un indicatore di scadenza degli intervalli per i tagliandi di manutenzione)
Questa Bmw 628 CSI con targhe originali dell'epoca, già restyling si presenta in condizioni impeccabili nel suo Balticblau-metallic (178/5). Ha il cambio a 5 rapporti, tutta la strumentazione funzionante compreso il check-panel introdotto proprio con il restyling, pneumatici di design storico di recente sostituzione, cerchi originali, sospensioni rifatte. L'auto è stata completamente rinfrescata nella carrozzeria e negli interni che sono stati impreziositi da una una tappezzeria in pelle perfettamente in stile con il modello e l'epoca del veicolo. Ogni componente sostituito è originale BMW. Il motore è stato sottoposto ad una attenta revisione ma non è stato rifatto. E' dotata di certificato di Rilevanza storica e collezionistica.
The origins of the first generation of the BMW 6 Series, marked by the project designation E24, date back to the early 1970s. The brand's development department entrusted the task of designing a prestigious coupé to the BMW Style Centre, headed by Paul Bracq (the task had also been entrusted in parallel to a team led by Giorgetto Giugiaro, whose project was shelved, however). The 6 Series made its company debut at the 1976 Geneva Motor Show. Its distinctive shape, with taut lines and large glass surfaces, was immediately welcomed with enthusiasm by the public. The original shape of the front end, featuring a plastic grille with a double kidney in the middle, also gave the car the nickname of Shark.
Beneath the modern bodywork lay cutting-edge technical solutions such as the body with deformable nose and tail, built to meet the stringent safety standards imposed by the American market, where it was marketed (from 1977). In 1978 the 628 CSi made its debut, inheriting the 184 hp 2.8-litre engine from the 528i. In 1982, the model's mid-life update, typical of the period, proved to be very substantial and brought new features both in the chassis area (weight reduction, suspension geometry change) and in the cosmetic area (front fog lamps integrated into the redesigned bumpers, while inside a new three-spoke steering wheel and a new dashboard including a service interval indicator were adopted).
This Bmw 628 CSI with original plates of the time, already restyled is in impeccable condition in its Balticblau-metallic (178/5). It has a 5-speed gearbox, all working instrumentation including the check-panel introduced with the restyling, newly replaced historic design tyres, original wheels, rebuilt suspension. The car has been completely refreshed in bodywork and interior, which has been embellished with leather upholstery perfectly in style with the model and era of the vehicle. Every component replaced is original BMW. The engine has undergone a thorough overhaul but has not been rebuilt. It comes with a certificate of historic and collectors' relevance.
