Scarce first edition of this work of erudition celebrating Palermo and the city's main families as well as its historic glory and patron saints.4 parts in one volume, folio, (274 x 200 mm). Engraved vignette to title-page, 32 coats of arms and 1 engraved vignette portrait in the text by mannerist painter Giuseppe d'Alvino (light browning and diffused humidity stains, small traces of worming to final pages, touching the text). Full contemporary vellum binding, gilt title to spine, blue edges, curious xylographic engraving with religious theme protecting the inner spine (light wear). Provenance: 20th century pencilled notes to endpapers.
