Splendid bilingual reglé edition, in Latin and French, of the Office of Darkness within an elegant contemporary binding with the arms of Louis XV, attributed to Antoine-Michel Padeloup (1685-1758), known as Padeloup le Jeune, who was appointed binder to the King a year after the work was published.8vo, (214 x 138mm). Engraved frontispiece and title-page, 4 plates outside text, engraved initials, vignettes and vignettes, reglé specimen (missing pp. 643-644, some light wear). Magnificent contemporary binding in full morocco attributed to the workshop of Padeloup le Jeune (1685-1758), to the arms of Louis XV with the collar of the Order of the Holy Spirit and that of St. Michael, richly decorated with botanical friezes and gilt fillets on both boards and spine, gilt decorated endpapers, gilt decorated edges (small repairs to caps and corners). Provenance: a few pencil notes to the endpapers. (1)
