Incomplete copy, with early Sicilian provenance and censorship of the parts explicitly against the clergy, of this fine 16th century illustrated edition; reprint of the 1512 Stagnino edition with the same plates, which were based on the 1491 Venetian edition by Benalius and Capcasa.4to, (205 x 150mm). Portrait of Dante on the title-page, full-page woodcut illustration at the beginning of the first canto, numerous smaller woodcuts for each canto, initials, printer's device at the end (missing leaves x4, x5, first leaves with the outer margin remargined with loss of a few letters of the margin notes, browning, stains). Old binding fully restored in the 20th century with additions. Provenance: some censorship, extended to leaves 126, 127, 319, 320, 360; Di Giovan Guglielmo Salmon, expurgavit...canonicus D.
