Scarce first edition. Complete work in ten volumes, adorned with 47 engraved plates depicting views of the city, churches and details of works of art. The tenth volume, present here, was published posthumously. Particularly striking are the views of Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo with its original façade, Antelami's Baptistery, and the works of the great architects of the Florentine Renaissance.10 volumes, 4to, (242 x 168mm). 47 (of 48) engraved plates, most of which folded several times, xylographic initials and illustrations engraved in the text, including the portrait of the author on the frontispiece of the first volume (a few plates with small marginal tears, the missing plate between p. 250 and 251 of the seventh volume). Contemporary half vellum with marbled sides, gilt title to spine (light wear, upper board of the eighth volume weak in centre). Provenance: private library markings to endpapers.
