Large lot containing first editions of archaeological and numismatic interest, with interesting provenances.Folio, (312 x 215mm). 2 plates folded several times, engraved vignette to title-page, variant B reported by OPAC (small marginal tear to first plate, some light wear). Contemporary full vellum binding, title gilt to spine; ownership stamp and note Aiméè Barvait on front pastedown (light wear). Provenance: Philippus Cortonensis (probably Filippo Venuti da Cortona, an archaeologist and one of the founders of the Accademia Etrusca, ownership inscription on the endpaper indicating that it was donated in 1730 by Filippo Buonarroti (1661-1733), Florentine archaeologist and scholar and great-grandson of Michelangelo); private library markings on the 20th century endpapers.[IN LOT WITH] CHISHULL, Edmund (1671-1733). Inscriptio Sigea antiquissima Boustrophèdon exarata. London: Innys, 1721. Folio (334 x 202mm). Engraved illustrations in the text (some spotting). Contemporary binding with vellum spine. Antiquiores pontificum romanorum denarii. Rome: Bernabè, 1709. 4to (242 x 174mm). Engraved illustrations of coins in the text (two leaves unbound, some wear). Contemporary full leather binding with gilt title and decorations on spine (some wear).[WITH] VISCONTI, Ennio Quirino (1751-1818). Lettera su due monumenti ne' cui è memoria d'Antonia Augusta. Rome: Fulgoni, 1798-1799. 4to (260 x 186mm). One folding plate (OPAC marks two, but digitised copies have one). Venetian decorated carta rustica binding (light wear)[WITH:] CARDINALI, Clement (1789-1839). In veterem Demetrii Superistà inscriptionem. Rome: De Romanis, 1823. An engraved plate reproducing the above inscription (printing and pagination errors as in other copies). Contemporary binding in half leather with gold vignettes on spine.
