Unique edition of this elegant book of emblems dedicated to Cardinal Federico de Medici, illustrated with over 100 engravings by Girolamo Porro (1520-1604) of whom Cicognara wrote: There are 108 beautiful emblems carved with supreme skill, and perhaps Porro did not execute more beautiful and elegant work (transl.).3 parts in one volume, 4to, (198 x 135 mm). 108 engraved emblems in text, engraved part-titles to each section, head-pieces and engraved initials (a few small marginal wormtracks, most previously repaired, spotting and some marginal dampstaining). 18th-century binding with leather spine, gilt title and decorations (spine partially detached). Provenance: Bordonaro (ownership inscription to 20th-century endpapers).
