Incomplete copy of this large collection of engraved plates by Bauer (1607-1642), a Baroque artist particularly known for this set.Oblong 4to, (200 x 314mm). Illustrated frontispiece and 145 (of 150) engraved plates illustrating Ovid's masterpiece, some contemporary notes in the lower margins of the plates (first leaves unbound, missing pages 5-6 of text and plates 12, 38, 47, 115 and 118, restoration with slight loss of text to title page, browning, some wear to margins). Binding rebacked in half vellum with leather sides, earlier inscription Ovid on board (some wear, spine partially detached). (1)
