Elegant early 20th-century Swedish binding signed Gustav Hedberg and formerly owned by Edward Cardwell, a British politician known for the British military reform that bears his name.4to, (223 x 154mm). Three-quarter-page woodcut illustrations before each day, woodcut initials (light staining to upper margin). Fine full blind-tooled neo-Renaissance binding signed by Gustav Hedberg (1859-1920). Provenance: Numerous contemporary notes and underlining in the text; Ex-libris of Edward Cardwell (1813-1886) (carried over from the previous binding); ex-libris Bogh Aalborg to the 20th-century endpapers.
