ESTIMATE € 3.500 - 6.500
If there is one car that has come to represent the spirit of a nation, it is the Fiat 500. Created in 1957 as a replacement for the beloved 500 Topolino, the New 500 immediately became one of the symbols of mass motoring. Although it was an economical and good-looking car, it did not immediately meet with the success it had hoped for: the too basic equipment of the first versions and the absence of chrome (at the time an almost indispensable accessory) and too low performance (13 horsepower) meant that the 500 immediately risked disappearing after its introduction onto the market.
The first series, known as the 'Economica' was soon revised and re-proposed by Fiat with descending side windows and a padded rear seat in place of the austere bench seat. Success was not long in coming and also thanks to Carlo Abarth's elaborations and his speed records, the 500 soon won a place in the hearts of Italians. With almost 3,000,000 units sold in almost 20 years of production, the 500 is one of Fiat's most successful cars and one of the best-known and best-loved Italian icons in the world.
The car on offer at auction was first registered on 28/02/1971 and has been restored in its original orange colour and retains its black interior in perfect condition. Over the years, the working car has undergone an overhaul of the braking system, a slight modification of the intake to allow for more fluidity and a few extra horses. It also comes with its original page booklet.
