La fiat 600 venne ufficialmente presentata al pubblico il 10 marzo 1955 al Salone di Ginevra, dove la casa torinese mostrò al mondo la prima auto italiana realmente accessibile a un pubblico molto vasto, una piccola berlina economica e moderna capace di trasportare comodamente quattro persone. Nella versione finale il motore “100” fu prodotto con una cilindrata di 633 cmc per una potenza di 21,5 cavalli, più che adeguata per un peso a secco di 560 kg, che le permetteva di raggiungere una velocità di 95 km/h, decisamente elevata per l’epoca. Questo motore è stato uno dei più longevi nell’intera storia della Fiat, perché nelle sue varie evoluzioni è stato utilizzato fino al 1998.
La 600 costava meno della Topolino pur essendo più grande, comoda e moderna. Il successo fu immediato. La berlina venne prodotta fino al 1969 (nel 1964 uscì l’erede, la Fiat 850) in 2.695.197 esemplari in Italia, ai quali si aggiungono oltre due milioni fabbricati all’estero, per un totale che sfiora i cinque milioni.
Il magnifico esemplare proposto in asta è del 1964, portiere controvento, precedente all'aggiornamento delle misure di sicurezza imposto in Fiat. Questo modello molto ambito ci arriva mantenuto e utilizzato negli anni, con carrozzeria sana, interni conservati, pronto utilizzabile fin da subito: un evergreen per gli appassionati storicizzati, ma anche per chi approccia alle classiche con una spesa contenuta. Recentemente è stata oggetto di manutenzione generale: sostituzione gomme, sostituzione ammortizzatori, sostituzione cinghie di servizio, sostituzione giunti, manicotti, semiassi, cuffie, sostituzione tubi e pompa freno, sostituzione supporti cambio, sostituzione olio motore 10/60 e filtro, sostituzione filtro aria, riparazione e pulizia radiatore.
The Fiat 600 was officially presented to the public on 10 March 1955 at the Geneva Motor Show. The Turin-based manufacturer showed the world the first Italian car that was truly accessible to a very wide public, a small, economical and modern saloon that could comfortably carry four people. In the final version, the '100' engine was produced with a displacement of 633 cmc for a power output of 21.5 hp, more than adequate for a dry weight of 560 kg, allowing it to reach a speed of 95 km/h, decidedly high for the time. This engine was one of the most long-lived in the entire history of Fiat, because in its various evolutions it was used until 1998.
The 600 cost less than the Topolino despite being bigger, more comfortable and more modern. Success was immediate. The saloon was produced until 1969 (in 1964 the heir, the Fiat 850, came out) in 2,695,197 examples in Italy, to which must be added more than two million manufactured abroad, for a total of almost five million.
The magnificent example on offer at auction is from 1964, doors upwind, predating the safety upgrade imposed at Fiat, now a much sought-after model, it has been maintained and used over the years, sound bodywork, preserved interior, ready for immediate use, an evergreen for historically-minded enthusiasts but also for those approaching classics on a budget. It has recently undergone general maintenance: replacement of tyres, replacement of shock absorbers, replacement of service belts, replacement of couplings, sleeves, axle shafts, boots, replacement of brake hoses and master cylinder, replacement of gearbox supports, replacement of 10/60 engine oil and filter, replacement of air filter, repair and cleaning of radiator.
