"One in four is a BSA".
"One in four is a BSA". This was the slogan of BSA of Birmingham that marked the great success of its products, which was the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer of the 1930s. After the crisis of 1929, the company specialised in the production of reliable, robust and high-performance motorcycles. Starting in 1932, BSA put on the market 3 new 500cc single-cylinder engines, all having the same crankcase but differed from each other regarding the top end: one was in fact with side valves while the other two with overhead valves and they were called W32-7 "Blue Star" and were intended to characterise the sports range. Thanks to the higher compression and to the cams modified to increase the valve-lift, the Blue Star was 28 hp strong and offered very high performance figures.
Restored some years ago with attention to detail, this Blue Star W34/8 is a perfect example of the most classic British sports bike of the pre-war period. Complete with its original Smiths instruments, the Amal carburettor and the Bologna plate of the 50s, this model is an excellent collector's item for lovers of historic motorcycles.
