Each Budai well modeled with finely features delicately colored and engraved details, seated with their face carved with a laughing expression, holding a pearl in their raised hand and in their other hand a flambé vase resting in their knees, wearing a rouge-de-fer flowing robe with long sleeves decorated with alternate medallions painted with landscape in grisaille and bordered with a yellow band, open to the waist revealing their large belly. One in very good condition with just some fingers missing as visible on the catalogue image and very minor firing imperfections and one chip to the base rim, the other with a restored areas on the lower section and to the head.
Note: Budai was a Buddhist monk who lived about 900 AD. In Chinese art he always depicted as obese, laughing and with naked chest and stomach.
