Negli anni ’50 la Mercedes 300SL era una delle macchine più ambite dell’epoca, ma anche poco accessibile per il suo costo elevato. Fu per questo motivo che Hoffman, importatore ufficiale della mercedes-Benz negli Stati Uniti, sollecitò la casa madre a produrre una nuova vettura che avesse l’eleganza e la sportività della 300SL, ma con un costo accessibile ad un maggior numero di appassionati. Nacque così il progetto W121.
Nel 1955 fu presentata la 190SL, che in poco divenne tra le più affascinanti ed ambite di roadster di tutti i tempi. Aveva il pianale della 180 berlina, accorciato ed irrigidito e con la scocca portante. Il motore era un 4 cilindri in linea da 1.9 litri che poteva erogare una potenza massima di 105 cv. Aveva due carburatori doppio corpo Solex. Il gruppo motore era alloggiato su un telaio ausiliare anteriore che garantiva una migliore insonorizzazione, così da migliorare la silenziosità dell’abitacolo.
Questa splendida 190SL del 1956 è un modello destinato al mercato americano e stando alla documentazione presente è stata prodotta nel 1956. Stando alla Datacard questa 190SL è nata nel colore originale in cui è verniciata tutt’ora di Feuerwher Rot DB 554 con interno in pelle bianca e come optional aveva la radio Becker Le Mans.
Nel 2016 è stato eseguito un restauro integrale e professionale che ha interessato tutta la vettura. Ad oggi si presenta in ottime condizioni generali e presenta segni di uso regolare dovuti a raduni ed eventi di regolarità. Questa vettura ha partcipato alla Mille Miglia 2017 con numero e risulta iscritta ASI, FIVA e ACI Csai.

In the 1950s, the Mercedes 300SL was one of the most desirable cars of the time, but also not very accessible due to its high cost. It was for this reason that Hoffman, the official importer of Mercedes-Benz in the United States, urged the parent company to produce a new car that had the elegance and sportiness of the 300SL, but with a cost that was accessible to a greater number of enthusiasts. Thus the W121 project was born.

In 1955 the 190SL was unveiled, which quickly became one of the most fascinating and coveted roadsters of all time. It had the floorpan of the 180 saloon, shortened and stiffened and with a load-bearing body. The engine was a 1.9-litre in-line four-cylinder that could deliver a maximum output of 105 hp. It had two Solex twin-body carburettors. The engine unit was housed on an auxiliary front frame, which provided better soundproofing to improve the quietness of the cabin.

This splendid 1956 190SL was a model destined for the American market, and according to the present documentation it was produced in 1956. According to the Datacard, this 190SL was produced in the original colour in which it is still painted in Feuerwher Rot DB 554 with a white leather interior and had the Becker Le Mans radio as an option.

In 2016, a complete and professional restoration was carried out, covering the entire car. To date, it is in excellent overall condition and shows signs of regular use from rallies and regularity events. This car participated in the 2017 Mille Miglia with number and is registered with ASI, FIVA and ACI Csai.
