Jaguar E Type needs no introduction. Designed by aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer and fitted with a hybrid chassis with a load-bearing body and tubular structures, it summed up the experience and success of the Coventry-based manufacturer in 1950s endurance racing. Introduced at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show, it was an unparalleled success, completely revolutionising the canons of automotive beauty in force at the time: even Enzo Ferrari admitted that the E Type was the most beautiful car ever made.
In its 10 years of production, the Jaguar E Type was produced in 4 different series with 3 separate engines. Among these, the "1 and a half" series is perhaps the least known, as it was a series straddling the first and second: powered by the 4.2 engine but identical to the 2nd series, it can be said that it is a model in its own right. This small family of E Type was born for the implementation of American safety and anti-pollution regulations in series production: different from each other depending on the target market, these cars today are sought after by collectors because of their rarity. Produced for only one year, 1968, they are requested by real connoisseurs of E Type.
According to the Jaguar certificate of origin, this model was delivered by the Henlys dealer in London to the Captain of the American Army, H.J.Bear, and still comes with its original engine. This E Type comes with American specifications but has always remained in Europe: after being sold by its first owner, the car spent some time in France before being imported into Italy. Purchased by its current owner about 4 years ago, it has been completely restored: the colour, originally Opalescent Maroon, has been replaced with an elegant and classic black, while the interior, in Light Tan leather, has been restored to its original condition. The restoration, which also involved the mechanical part, was intended to preserve the classic beauty of this Jaguar while enhancing its driving pleasure. It is now ASI certified and ready to be enjoyed by its new owner.
