THE GOFFREDO AND ENRICA MANFREDI COLLECTION
The collection of Count and Countess Goffredo and Enrica Manfredi bears witness, above all, to two people who have left the finest examples of the good taste and elegance of Rome from the 1930’s to the 1970’s. She, a descendent of the Empress Catherine The Great of Russia and was related to the great English Romantic poet, Percy Bysshe Shelley. He, starting out out on his business career at an exceptionally young age. At a mere eighteen years of age, in 1936, he founded his first building and road-making company, an occupation that followed in the traditions of his family. After the Second World War, during which be brought honour to his family name as well as his country as a partisan (winning the prestigious Silver Medal for Military Bravery), he became one of Italy’s foremost figures in industry during the country’s economic boom. In the 1950’s and the 1960’s he expanded his activities into other business sectors which included the chemical, mechanical, ship-building, airport (both civilian and military), motorway and railway industries. He took part, too, in the building and the creation of whole residential areas in both Milan and Rome. He was awared military, cultural and foreign medals and honours including the Honoris Causa Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Pavia, in Italy. Enrica and Goffredo Manfredi shared 58 years of life together in the public eye and privately, too. They have been much loved as well as famous thanks to the hard-working help and care that Enrica Manfredi has dedicated for many a long year to the poorest members of society.
