THE BEAUTY BECOMES MITH
MILAN, FACTORY OF FLIGHT, NOVEMBER 2011
Beauty that does good
Much more than a single “event” it’s a new way to think things: an initiative involving all those who are working in Beauty and who choose to do Good. It’s a meeting place between the great luxury brands donating to precious objects to Ai.Bi.and consumers who prefer purchasing ethically: Beauty does Good if it helps to save an abandoned child. The Beauty becomes Myth Beauty that does good is 10 this year. On the occasion of its birthday, Beauty is becoming legend. The leitmotiv will be the indissoluble link between companies that have made “history” and the people most loved by the public at large. Works of art celebrating legendary names from the past and present – created by the artist Alessandro Gedda – and unique pieces that are linked to the legends will be put under the auction hammer by Wannenes during the Gala Dinner. However, the real “legends” will be all those who decide to take part in Beauty doing Good and they’ll turn a social event into a day that will be dedicated to solidarity and the struggle against abandon. This is an invisible emergency, since we can neither touch it or see it and it seems, in appearance, to be harmless since abandon kills you inside, not outside. “This edition of Beauty doing Good is bringing 2011 to an end; a year like every year that has been spent side by side with children who have been abandoned. It’s been a difficult year: the numbers have spoken clearly, abandoned children is the scour of the Twenty-first century, a real form of modern slavery that is denying millions of little children the freedom of being sons and daughter. Every year the number of abandoned minors is growing exponentially. According to UNICEF records, in 2004 there were around 145 million abandoned children. By 2010, the number had risen to 168 million. This means that on average every year there are four million more abandoned children. Thanks to those who are fighting day by day alongside Ai.Bi., this year, too, hundreds of little children have found the love of a mother and a father, once again discovering something wholly irreplaceable in the life of a child: the loving care of a family”. The President of Amici dei Bambini Marco Griffini What is Ai.Bi. Ai.Bi. Associazione Amici dei Bambini (The Association of the Friends of Children) is a non-government organisation made up of a movement of adoptive and foster families with the aim to promote and create the right of each and every minor to be a son or a daughter.. Since 1986, Ai.Bi. has worked every day alongside children from all over the world in order to fight against the emergency of child abandon and to try to give a family to each and every child, intervening where abandon rears up its ugly head: in orphanages, assistance centres, in the streets and in families. Ai.Bi. operates in Italy with a national headquarters and 9 regional centres. Around the world it is present in 25 countries with centres in Eastern Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia. After a few years from its foundation, the Amici dei Bambini became a moral institution recognised by the Ministry of Home Affairs in 1991 and became an Authorised Organisation for International Adoptions in 1992 as well as a non-governmental organisation recognised by the Italian Foreign Office in 1993. Amici dei Bambini has been voluntarily certified by the auditors Ernst & Young since 2000. It was the first Italian NGO to receive in 2001 the UNI EN ISO 9001 Quality Certificate for projects of international co-operation and distance support. The certificate has been renewed annually since that date (since 2004 as UNI EN ISO 9001: 2000). In 2005, it obtained accreditation from the DPI (Department of Public Information) – at the United Nations and shortly afterwards it was recognised as an Organisation with Advisory Status at the Economics and Social Department (ECOSOC) and at the UN (2009). In 2005, it won the Non-Profit Oscar and the Special Award for Transparency and Wealth of Information. Since 2007, it has been a member of the Italian Donation Institute, an organisation that guarantees transparency and efficiency in the use of funds collected. In 2010, it endorsed the “Guidelines for Distance Support of Minors and Young People” published by the Agency for the Third Sector. www.aibi.it
